Prativindhya

Prativindhya (IAST: Prativindhya, Sanskrit: प्रतविन्ध्य) was the eldest of the Upapandavas, born to Yudhishthira and Draupadi. The Upapandavas were the five sons born to Draupadi from each of the five Pandavas. They are: Prativindhya from Yudhishthira, Sutasoma from Bhimasena, Shrutakarma from Arjuna, Shatanika from Nakula and Shrutasena from Sahadeva. They fought the battle on the side of the Pandavas, and all were Ekarathis as said by Bhishma but not much is said in the Mahabharata about the brothers except for fleeting mentions during the battle. On the 11th and 14th day of war, all five were single handedly defeated by Karna's son Vrishasena. Prativindhya killed Chitra in kurukshetra war on the 16th day. All the Upapandavas were killed by Ashwatthama on the night of the last day of the war.

On the 12th day of war

Beholding Prativindhya staying at the van of that dreadful battle, Drona's son (Ashwatthaman), desirous of protecting the honour of his sire, resisted the former with his shafts. Prativindhya, then, excited with rage pierced Ashwatthaman, bearing on his standard the device of a lion's tail and staying in battle for the sake of his father, with many sharp shafts. The (eldest) son of Draupadi then scattered over Drona's son showers of arrows, like a sower scattering seeds on the soil at the sowing season.
